COUNCIL-owned dams in the region are overflowing following the recent rain and Warwick’s SunWater Leslie Dam has been nicely topped up.
The Southern Downs Regional Council reports Warwick’s back-up urban supply at Connolly Dam at Silverwood and Stanthorpe’s Storm King Dam are both flowing over their walls, while Leslie Dam currently has 29,853 megalitres in storage, which is nearly 30 per cent of capacity.
The Bureau of Meteorology says the current wet spell is set to clear and the Southern Downs and Granite Belt are in for a fine Friday and weekend.
Forecaster Lauren Pattie said trough systems which moved across Queensland through the week brought falls of up to 10mm across the region.
“These systems will continue to move east during Thursday and Friday and conditions will start to clear,” she told the Free Times.
“The Southern Downs and Granite Belt looks set for quite a nice weekend, with daytime temperatures in the early twenties, possibly a little cooler in some parts.”
