Man critical after head-on crash

THE Cunningham Highway at the Gap was re-opened around midnight last night after a head-on collision between a semi-trailer and a sedan.
A 33-year-old man remains in a critical condition in Brisbane’s PA Hospital on Tuesday 13 September with head and limb injuries as a result of the accident, which happened around 1.30pm on 12 September.
A LifeFlight spokesman said the cause of the accident was currently unknown, however it was understood the sedan was travelling up the Cunningham Highway, about two to three kilometres on the Brisbane side of the Gap, when the vehicle collided with a semi-trailer travelling in the opposite direction.
Emergency services personnel, led by Queensland Fire and Emergency Service officers, extricated the man from the sedan and treated him at the scene.
“The Toowoomba-based RACQ LifeFlight Rescue helicopter was tasked to the area at 1.55pm,” the spokesman said.
“The helicopter was able to land at the Cunninghams Gap helipad, and the LifeFlight medical team were transported to the scene by Queensland Ambulance Service road ambulance.
“The LifeFlight medical team worked with Queensland Ambulance Service paramedics to stabilise the patient, before he was flown to the Princess Alexandra Hospital in a critical condition with head and limb injuries.
“The condition of the semi-trailer driver is unknown.”
