Driver fights for life

By Jeremy Sollars

THE critically-injured driver of a sedan which collided with a semi-trailer near Cunningham’s Gap is still fighting for his life in hospital.
Police said investigations are ongoing but it is understood that witnesses have said his vehicle veered onto the wrong side of the highway and into the path of an oncoming semi-trailer around 1.30pm on Monday 12 September.
The 33-year-old driver of the sedan was flown by LifeFlight to Brisbane’s Princess Alexandra Hospital with critical head and other injuries.
A police spokesman said the man was in a serious but stable condition.
The driver of the semi-trailer was uninjured in the accident.
It is not clear at this stage when police may be able to speak with the driver of the sedan about the circumstances leading up to the collision.
Emergency services attended the scene of the smash until about 10.30pm on Monday night when the Cunningham Highway was finally re-opened.
Updates to follow.
