WE could be in for a wet start to the weekend across the Southern Downs and Granite Belt with the weather bureau tipping a 70 per cent chance of showers on Friday and a 60 per cent chance on Saturday.
The Bureau of Meteorology says a large high pressure system presently over the Tasman Sea will shift towards the east over the next couple of days bringing a moist onshore flow over eastern Queensland, and combined with upper and surface troughs moving east across the state’s interior tomorrow is likely to bring rain around the local ridges.
Friday is likely to see showers from late morning in Warwick and Stanthorpe tending to patchy rain at times, with the chance of a storm in the afternoon and evening, and a top of 23.
Saturday looks set for showers in the morning and afternoon and a possible afternoon storm, with daytime temperatures in the low to mid 20s.
Sunday in the region is expected to be mostly sunny with light winds and daytime temperatures again in the low to mid 20s.
Dam levels in the region remain steady with Leslie Dam currently holding 20,855ML, or 19.6 per cent of capacity. Warwick’s back-up supply Connolly Dam is at 72.7 per cent and Stanthorpe’s Storm King Dam is 100 per cent full and overflowing.
