Innisfail's Mackay family head into the Southerns this week on their way to Melbourne, raising money for Breast Cancer research.

THE North Queensland family raising money for Breast Cancer in a road-trip to Southern climes have reached the Southern Downs.
Innisfail couple Julie and Cameron McKay and their four children Darcy, Hamish, Tiarna and Maddison arrived in the Downs this week on their way through to Melbourne.
Named the luckiest road trippers in Australia they celebrated their arrival in Killarney with local residents and travel enthusiasts at Killarney View Cabins and Caravan Park on Tuesday 6 September from 5pm, and will hold a similar event at Stanthorpe on Wednesday 7 September at Sommerville Valley Tourist Park.
Beating thousands of hopefuls Australia-wide, Innisfail caravan park owners the McKays were chosen as Dometic Follow the Sun Ambassadors, embarking on a 13-week expenses paid trip down the east coast of Australia to raise funds and awareness for the National Breast Cancer Foundation (NBCF).
As winners, the McKays’ 2008 Jayco Sterling caravan received a makeover, fitted with $25,000 worth of Dometic premium leisure products.
For the first time in the competition’s history, Dometic has partnered with NBCF to raise $100,000 for life-changing breast cancer research. Julie says she has lots of fund-raising ideas up her sleeve to help support the cause.”
“We love travelling and meeting new people, especially while making a difference through supporting crucial breast cancer research,” Julie said.
Offering free drinks and nibbles, loads of giveaways, pink merchandise and raffle prizes from Dometic and partners, the McKays will host a ‘Happy Hour’ and toad racing at Killarney View Cabins and Caravan Park to meet local residents and fellow travellers, while regaling stories from their adventure so far and showing off their newly renovated vehicle.
“We’ve been looking forward to coming to Stanthorpe; everything we’ve heard about it has been great,” Cameron said.
“Come down this Thursday at 5pm if you want to have a chat over free food and drinks – we’d love to see you there.”
Their trip kicked-off with a huge party in Cairns on 1 August and will wrap up at the grand finale event in Melbourne at the end of October.
