Kids are quite the characters

Prep teacher aides Kerri Wall, Cathy Warrener, Tina Lambert and Jenny Hoger got their groove on in the big red car.

SMART blue school uniforms remained in the cupboard as children’s imaginations were fired up to dress as characters from their favourite book for West School’s Book Week parade on Thursday 25 August.
The parade was a highlight of the school’s activities recognising the 2016 Children’s Book Council of Australia’s Book Week, which celebrates Australian children’s literature and the stories of all Australian people.
This year’s theme, Australia! Story Country, saw a procession of swaggies, sheep, koalas, cockatoos, iconic Australians like the Irwins and the Wiggles, along with cricketing superstar turned author David Warner, enthral a large audience.
Books like Koala Lou, Wombat Stew, Rainbow Serpent, Mr Fly Guy, Piranhas don’t eat Bananas, I’m a Dirty Dinosaur, Lola the Lollipop Fairy and The Kaboom Kid were glimpsed in the parade, with children going all out to be their literary heroes.
Between children creating their favourite literary characters and talented West School librarians creating a wonderful display, the school was abuzz with excitement for the annual event.
West School parent Tanya Strom, witnessed the parade and was full of praise for staff members, who shone in their efforts to celebrate Book Week.
“The parade was fantastic! It’s clear to see that all staff at the school are so enthusiastic and passionate about what they do and the children are so very fortunate to have such wonderful, positive people educating them.”
“Seeing a hall full of happy and excited children this morning made me one very happy and proud Warwick West parent,” she said.
