THE Salvation Army is the latest beneficiary of Southern Downs Regional Council’s ‘Casual for a Cause’ staff initiative, receiving a donation from staff who dress-down on Fridays to raise money for local not-for-profit organisations.
Southern Downs mayor Tracy Dobie presented The Salvation Army’s Lieutenants Steve and Lydia Spencer with a cheque for $234.30 and thanked them for their commitment to helping the community.
“Our community is truly grateful for the work that the Salvos do in providing support to those in need in our region,” Cr Dobie said.
“Especially with welfare needs, emergency services requirements, rehabilitation and accommodation.”
Cr Dobie said the Salvos were nominated by staff as the recipient of their June collection in support of this year’s Red Shield Appeal, which was held at the end of May.
“Staff recognised the importance of the Salvo’s annual Red Shield Appeal and wanted to do their bit,” she said.
“So, the schedule of not-for-profits was re-jigged a little to fit The Salvation Army in, and we hope this donation goes some way to bolstering this year’s Red Shield Appeal balance.
The Salvation Army’s Lt Steve Spencer thanked the mayor and council staff for the donation.
“Obviously the money we raise goes towards those people in our community who are finding it difficult, and we’re finding more and more people in difficult circumstances,” he said.
“We’re often asked to do more with less. So if we get more, we can do more, and this donation is much appreciated.
Lt Lydia Spencer also took the opportunity to remind everyone that The Salvation Army has joined in the Jumpers and Jazz in July festivities.
“We’re hosting the “Sing and Swing at the Salvos” event on Saturday 30 July, from 6.30pm, at 25 Guy Street, Warwick,” she said.
“We’ve got the Revelation Big Band and Blindside Barber Shop Quartet, and it’s just a gold coin donation for entry, and all are welcome,” she said.
Warwick Safe Haven will be the recipient of the Casual for a Cause staff donations collected throughout July. Council’s ‘Casual for a Cause’ initiative was introduced in August last year and has raised a whopping $3313 since its inception.
