Racing greats, muscle cars make appearance

Muscle cars for a cause- come to the Show N Shine this weekend.

THE Darling Downs will soon play host to some of Australia’s well-known Bathurst racing greats, as they hit the track for a good cause.
Although many would relish the opportunity to see the likes of Peter Brock, Allan Moffat and John Goss return to the road, it is the famous cars they drove during the glory days of Bathurst in the 60s and 70s, that will return.
The Leukaemia Foundation’s Aussie Muscle Car Run will see legendary Aussie muscle cars such as the Monaro, Falcon GT, Torana and Mustang take participants on a 2125km sweep of Queensland.
The event will pass through Warwick on Sunday 31 July and pass through Roma, Emerald, Rockhampton, Bundaberg and Noosa before finishing in Runaway Bay on Saturday 6 August.
Held from 31 July to 6 August, it is the first time the event will take place in Queensland after several successful events in other states.
“We invite the Darling Downs community to join us to celebrate an era of the most outstanding vehicle competition in the world,” said Bill Petch, CEO of the Leukaemia Foundation.
The unique fund-raising event gives owners of Aussie muscle cars made between 1963 and 1977, including replicas, to showcase their legendary vehicles with the community.
Darling Downs residents are invited to attend the Show ‘n’ Shine event at Cherrabah Homestead Resort, Keoghs Road, Elbow Valley, on Sunday 31 July from 2.30pm-4.30pm.
Residents are also invited to bring their own cars to be a part of the Show ‘n’ Shine event.
The money raised from the event will help fund life-saving blood cancer research and provide support for families impacted by blood cancer.
The Leukaemia Foundation receives no direct government support and relies on the generosity of the community to help patients beat their blood cancer.
