TENDERS are being called to build the new Bruxner Highway bridge over the Clarence River at Tabulam.
Member for Lismore Thomas George said the bridge was being replaced as part of the NSW Government’s Bridges for the Bush program, which aims to remove bottlenecks and improve the safety of bridges in regional communities.
“Tabulam bridge forms part of the Bruxner Highway, which provides the main connection for road users including heavy vehicles between the Northern Rivers, Northern Tablelands and southern Queensland regions,” Mr George said.
“The overall width between kerbs of the existing bridge is 4.6 metres, accommodating only single-lane traffic.
“The new bridge will be one lane in either direction to improve road transport productivity and traffic efficiency, and have a separate footpath to improve pedestrian and cycle safety.
“Tenders are being called for construction of the new bridge with a separate tender process to be carried out for the removal of the existing bridge once the new structure has opened to traffic.
“The contract includes building the new 290-metre Bruxner Highway bridge, plus associated roadwork to ensure the structure is integrated with the surrounding road network.
“A pre-tender meeting, including a site inspection will be held on Thursday 11 August at 11am at Tabulam Village Hall and attendance is a pre-requisite to submitting a tender.
