Remanded on drugs charges

A STANTHORPE man was remanded in custody yesterday after appearing in court on drug offences earlier this week.
Martin James Kelly, 51, was remanded in custody to appear in court again on 23 August.
Police will allege that he was apprehended following Operation Nautilus, which involved police from Stanthorpe, Wallangarra and Texas as well as the Dog Detection dogs.
Stanthorpe police Senior Sergeant Mark Ireland said police will allege a search warrant was executed on premises on a Stanthorpe house on Thursday where, after forcing entry, police uncovered a variety of drugs and drug paraphernalia including methyl-amphetamines, cannabis, pipes, syringes and restricted drugs.
Mr Kelly was charged with two counts of possessing dangerous drugs, possessing restricted drugs, failing to dispose of a syringe and possessing implements used for the consumption/ administration of dangerous drugs.
Police objected to bail, and Mr Kelly was held in custody to appear Warwick Magistrates’ Court the following day.
On Friday, upon his appearance, he was again remanded in custody until Monday. A 31-year-old woman residing at the same address was also charged with possessing utensils used for smoking dangerous drugs.

Drug dogs have their day
DRUG detection dogs proved their worth when they assisted with the execution of a search warrant on premises at Whiskey Gully Road, Severnlea, last week.
Senior Sergeant Mark Ireland said a quantity of steroids and cannabis were detected secreted in the exterior side panel of a vehicle at that location leading to the charging of a 25-year-old man with drug offences.
A quantity of cannabis was located on premises in Harris Street and a 17-year-old woman being offered and accepting drug diversion.

Drivers with drugs
A TRAFFIC intercept about noon last Friday led to the discovery of methyl-amphetamine and an associated pipe. The 44-year-old male driver was subsequently charged with two drug-related offences.
“Also highly active in the targeting of drug related offences, Stanthorpe Road Policing Unit were responsible for the interception and charging of six persons who returned positive drug tests while driving motor vehicles in the Stanthorpe area,” Sen Sgt Ireland said.
“These included five males, two aged 25, then 26, 44 and 54 years and one female aged 31.”

Damaging blows
A 25-YEAR-OLD man was charged with assault following a fight outside the Central Hotel, about 1.30am Sunday.
Senior Sergeant Mark Ireland said the man was also issued with a banning notice from the Central Hotel as a result.
“The offenders’ 21-year-old male associate, from Beerwah, was conveyed to the Stanthorpe Hospital suffering lacerations to his hand received as a consequence of smashing a window earlier at the Central Hotel,” he said.
The second man was also charged by police for wilful damage to property and possessing dangerous drugs after a quantity of cannabis was located on his person.

One too many
ABOUT 3am the same morning, police intercepted a vehicle travelling in the CBD, charging the 35-year-old male driver, an overseas tourist, with drink-driving after he returned a reading of .125 per cent.
