THE Vijayadev Yogendra Auditorium at the School of Total Education was buzzing for the launch of the Southern Downs Refugee and Migrant Network during Refugee Week last week.
The recently formed group was officially launched with a movie night after rain put paid to a multicultural picnic the previous weekend.
The event featured Freedom Stories, a documentary based project featuring people who sought asylum in Australia at a time of great political turmoil around 2001 but who had long since dropped out of the media spotlight.
The SDRAMN has an interest in the wellbeing of refugees and migrants.
Based on the Southern Downs in Queensland, it is currently developing a schedule of activities and events, supported by working parties for advocacy, welcome, settlement and community engagement.
It is seeking like-minded members to join and support its goals, objectives and values.
SDRAMN has a home base at St Mark’s Anglican Church, Warwick, which has offered its Resource Room for meetings and for Open Room events.
