Picnic time at Killarney

Picnic baskets at the ready.

IMAGINE merry picnickers; laughing friends and family; green lawn rolling to the lake edge; the warm colours of autumn framing views to the blue mountain ranges.
This is the image that Killarney’s Deb Bradfield and her team want to share with their first Killarney Picnic Basket Day.
“The Picnic Basket concept was an idea of the late Mr Jamie Mackenzie, and we hope it will be a fun day for locals and visitors to experience the natural beauty of Killarney and the surrounding region, while enjoying wonderful local produce,” Mrs Bradfield said.
And what lovelier spot for the event than the beautiful gardens of Melrose Station, renowned across the region and previously featured in the Open Gardens scheme.
Visitors are invited to bring their picnic blanket and chairs and set up a spot in the grounds.
“You can bring your own picnic lunch or buy a delicious picnic lunch and afternoon tea, prepared and sold by our local volunteers,” Mrs Bradfield continued.
A bar will be in operation and local jazz, country and folk musicians will provide entertainment. In keeping with the picnic basket theme, gourmet picnic baskets featuring local goodies will be raffled during the day.
“We hope people from Killarney and across the Southern Downs Region, as well as further afield, will come to help launch our first Killarney Picnic Basket Day.
Proceeds from the day will go to Livin’, a not-for-profit organisation raising awareness about mental illness.
Killarney’s inaugural Picnic Basket Day will be held on Sunday 22 May 2016, from 10am to 4pm at Melrose Station. Entry is $5 for adults, Under 12s, free. For more information, contact 0437 109 912.
